Tracy Williams and I collaborate on Goodbye Chains, a Western comic noir about the early days of the American labor movement and its intersectionality with the technology of the time. (Translated, it's about a Communist who blows things up.) When I draw comics, it turns out like this--which is to say, oddly.

Longtime readers of Goodbye Chains may remember Crush, a fantasy comic I was working on with the excellent Emily Carroll. Crush took place in a world that was an amalgam of many different universes, featuring chimeras, were-animals, and huge monsters in a barren desert and a lonely city. Unfortunately, because of scheduling issues the project stalled out, but I thought the work that Emily did was too nice to keep to myself forever. So, without further ado, Crush!

The main cast, from L-R: Merv, the mage, Fatima, the fighter, Schadenfreude (“Chad”) Jones, the violence intern, and Dr. Itatsi, the healer (and QUESTION MARK?). They were all assigned to go on an adventure to prevent (tangentially) the end of the world.

Fatima has something of a fire affinity. She also really, really likes dead monsters. Please note: that is not a lightsaber. Lightsabers are not on FIRE.

I hope you enjoyed this look at Crush! If you aren’t familiar with Emily’s work, her portfolio is here.
